Hi Hugo,
I Would very much like to catch a stickleback using rod and line, my problem being where do I go to catch one now ? years ago, our local canals were full of them but I haven’t seen one in years. I live in Walsall, West Midland so somewhere close would be nice if you have any ideas.
Best Regards
Dave Cope
Hi Dave,
I’m afraid I’m not local to your area but I can give you some advise on where to look. If the sticklebacks are no longer in the canal then the chances are they are in the feeder streams and brooks (assuming there are some), a quick search on google maps will probably show up some places. If you have a look in all the local streams at a few different spots you’ll see them if they are there and the water is clear enough. They wont always be visible so it pays to fish each spot for a while just to check if there is anything in there.
Best of luck,
Hugo.
Hi Hugo,
This blog of yours is wonderful. Having just had my first stickleback a couple of days ago (taken me over 5 years to find and then catch one) I’ve been reading around on the net. Now after bullheads and minnows I stumbled on here and have spent a pleasant hour reading through so I’d just like to say a big thank you! I hope you keep this blog up, it’s wonderful, thank you.
Hugo!
Where have you been? Have not seen you post anywhere for quite some time. We missed seeing you UK catches in the Micro Contest this year on NT-fishing. You’ll have to sign up again. There was a major problem and we lost our site and still rebuilding.
Hey Aaron! I really should get back to posting on NT, I haven’t really done much micro fishing recently (pretty much all my fishing recently has been with lures) but I’ll definitely post up some photos of my recent catches when I get the chance.
Hey Hugo, Ken here. By chance I was looking up information on catching Three-spined Stickleback and found your blog. Very nice blog! How are you and how’s fishing? Catch up some more over email later.
