Big dace, tiny sticklebacks, and some new species on lures

I had a very productive afternoon yesterday fishing the stort at bishops stortford, I have fished it several times before so I knew it contained some huge dace well over the british record. I arrived at my favourite trout spot but some of the bankside vegetation had been knocked oer so I coudn’t get a decent cast. I then moved on to the spot where I often catch big dace and I got one almost straight away.

I then caught a perch on my next cast

My next fish was this small chub, I don’t know how it managed to fit a size 6 drennan super speciaist in its mouth!

I caught several mmore perch and another nice dace then I decided to try out some of my micro lures, I tied on a 2cm red forktail lure on a 0.5gr sz12 jighead and on my first cast in the water at my feet resulted in my first lure caught chub which took my lure on the drop!

I also caught lots of perch on the lure and I noticed that sticklebacks would attack my lure when it hit the bottom in the shallow water at my feet, so I cut off the tail off one of my lures and wacky rigged it on a size 28 hook and no8 split shot, soon enough i ahd caught my first stickleback on a lure!

I then continued to catch perch on lures and sticklebacks on peices of worm, I even got this absolutely tiny one which based on the length of line between the hook and split shot I have worked out the length of the fish at 2.6cm, a new personal least!

I’m leaving for a trip to Italy tomorrow morning so I will report on what I catch as soon as I get back, I may even get the elusive sculpin!
